This is the perfect gift to share with children before they see The Nutcracker. Everyone who has seen the ballet will cherish it—as will anyone who enjoys stories where love triumphs. Come, take a front-row seat. The world's most beloved holiday fairy tale is about to begin. Average Rating:
![]() Rating: - DelightfulI purchased The Nutcracker as a holiday gift for a young niece who is the magical age of seven. Her parents shared that it is her favorite bedtime story this holiday season. My own daughter, now grown, enjoyed the ballet each Christmas time as a child and The Nutcracker brought back beautiful memories of those special times we shared. Not only is this editon beautifully written, the illistrations are in a word, magical. I would recommend this little treasure to all little girls and the little girls ... Read More Rating: - Beautiful Children's bookThis is - by far - the best children's Nutcracker book. Beautiful pictures, easy for young children to stay involved in (totally immersed). The magic the book relays is wonderful. I wish the pictures included a page or two that showcased all of the 'Sweets' dances, My daughter misses them. Also, to keep with current West Coast changes, we call the little girl Clara instead of Marie. Rating: - Marie????I purchased this book for my 2yr old daughter Clara, you can imagine my dissapointment when I opened the cover to see that the little girl's name had been changed to Marie. The illustrations are lovely, but I'm returning this book to find one with the proper characters! Rating: - Good version for young childrenThis is a good introduction to the Nutcracker for young children. It is short, easy to understand and enjoy and the illustrations are lovely. But why on earth is Clara's name changed to Marie?? Rating: - The ballet was not the "original" Nutcracker storyI confess I haven't yet read this version of the book. I just wanted to respond to readers who criticized this book for not following the "original". The original story, which I have read, was written by E.T.A. Hoffman. The ballet was based on his story, which had a heroine named Marie and a mouse king with multiple heads (seven I think). I suspect that that costume would have been unnecessarily complicated for the costumers and dancers.
