"Lizzie's Story: A Slave Family's Journey To Freedom" by Clarice Boswell is a testament to a writer who really put in a massive amount of work to bring her story to life. Clarice researched her families history through bibles and by talking with family members, although a few names have been changed she says the story is true. In having read the first fifty pages so far, there are repeated recounts of slave mistreatment at the hands of exploiting, violent, and just plain mean masters. There is sexual assault that leaves its victim unable to have children, there is a scenario where the mistress neglects her own child, locking the child in a room; there is an incident of slapping a slave, and several instances of beatings, detailed graphically.
