Clement C. Moore wrote this account of a man's encounter with St. Nicholas in 1822 to entertain his children. Since then, his charming descriptions have become the definitive portrait of Santa Claus, from his twinkling eyes to his droll little mouth to the belly that shakes like a "bowlful of jelly." In this edition, award-winning illustrator Bruce Whatley brings Moore's well-loved Christmas classic to life with his vivid pictures and unusual perspectives. Readers can practically look up Dasher and Dancer's noses at one point, in a near-3-D close-up image of Santa's flock of reindeer. Bright colors and clever details (one remaining leaf hangs from a tree outside the window, mice curl tightly together in a nest on a high shelf, reindeer peek mischievously over the rooftop at the unsuspecting narrator...) make this a holiday book the whole family will return to year after year. (Ages 3 to 10) --Emilie Coulter Product Description: Clement Moore's beloved poem has been a cherished part of the holidays for over a hundred and fifty years, and Tasha Tudor's delicate watercolors make this book a gift to her readers. Recreating her own Vermont farm home, her illustrations enliven the poem with all the charm of an old-fashioned country Christmas: handmade gifts under a candle-lit tree, stockings hanging by an open fire, and a magical visit from Saint Nicholas. Tasha Tudor's affectionate watercolors evoke the warmth and gentleness of a simpler time. Her whimsical characters and period detail are the perfect match for the world's most beloved Christmas poem, making this elegant gift edition one that will be treasured by families for generations. ![]() Rating: - MagicalSo neat to find a book that captures actual photos of santa from the victorian era. Highly recommend it. Rating: - beautiful editionBought a copy for each of the grandkids to have for Christmas Eve. Inexpensive but has wonderful illustrations. Rating: - Photographs, not illustrations!!!I am an elementary school librarian, and each year I read this book to my 4th graders. It reinforces the belief in Santa Claus for those students who are questioning the exsistence of Santa. It also makes those who no longer believe question their choice. The photographs are incredible, and the opening letter from the illustrator to the reader is what captures my students before I begin to read the classic poem and show the pictures. I recommend this book to any parent who encourages fantasy and ... Read More Rating: - T. Tudor's illustrations are overlayed with frames...cutting out detailsI was very disappointed with this edition. The publisher overlayed Tasha Tudor's beautiful illustrations with frames that cut out a lot of fun details, like the little mousy apartment below floor level. I hope that whichever publishing house has the rights to this book will go back to the original format in future prints. Rating: - The Night Before Christmas (Golden Storybooks) I'm now on a third edition of this poem and, to keep them straight, the ISBN of each edition is at the start of its review. The first, 'Twas the Night Before Christmas (Candy Cane Books) began with a sentence I'm going to copy and paste here: While there's no question that the original poem by Clement Moore is a five star piece of work, there are so many versions of this poem in print that any review has to be of the entire book, with more weight on the illustrations, the only difference between ...
