If you are thinking of becoming an Aggie, this guide will offer you what some Texas A&M students have to say; at the very least, it will make your college decision-making process a little more logical than mine was. The presence of the uniformed Corps of Cadets still ties us to the past and supports their claim that they are the keepers of tradition. There is a train running through the middle of campus that has ties to the formation of the city of College Station, which can also be used as an excuse for getting to class late. Tradition is still a part of daily life here at A&M. The week after the terrorist attacks of September 11th, Texas A&M students organized a Red, White and Blue-Out, where instead of wearing our school color, maroon, everyone in the stadium, including the alumni side, wore the colors of the flag. The first decks wore blue, the middle wore white, and the third wore red. Walking up the ramp to Kyle Field, I caught a glimpse of 83,000 people joining together to support America, and the sight was completely overwhelming. No other school could have organized and supported this gesture on such short notice, and this filled me with tremendous honor and a sobering pride at A&M. Witnessing all of this during my freshman year gave me a heartwarming feeling: I knew this was the school for me. ItÂ’s difficult to see the entire picture of Texas A&M through cold stats and boring facts, but after reading this guide, youÂ’ll see just how different it is from any other campus in America. Pay attention, because the following pages could very well be the next best thing to living on campus yourself. Hopefully, all the opinions in this book will give you a better picture of the real A&M. Ashley Marshall, Author Texas A&M University
