In the picturesque village of Branscombe, New Hampshire, the townsfolk are all pitching in to prepare for the first (and many hope annual) Festival of Joy. The night before the festival begins, a group of employees at the local market learn that they have won $160 million in the lottery. One of their co-workers, Duncan, decided at the last minute, on the advice of a pair of crooks masquerading as financial advisers, not to play. Then he goes missing. A second winning lottery ticket was purchased in the next town, but the winner hasn't come forward. Could Duncan have secretly bought it? The Clarks' endearing heroes -- Alvirah Meehan, the amateur sleuth, and private investigator Regan Reilly -- have arrived in Branscombe for the festival. They are just the people to find out what is amiss. As they dig beneath the surface, they find that life in Branscombe is not as tranquil as it appears. So much for an old-fashioned weekend in the country. This fast-paced holiday caper will keep you dashing through the pages! Average Rating:

The plot was thin and very predictable. The characters were one-dimensional and not fleshed out by any means. Perhaps, if I'd read the other books in the series they would be a bit more so, but after reading this one, I'd never waste my time doing that! The dialog was trite and left me yawning. The "action" was ... Read More Rating: - Dashing Through the SnowBoth sleuths Alvirah Meehan and Regan Reilly have come to Branscombe for a Christmas Festival. What they also find is a group of people who always play the lottery and have finally won a multi-million pot. One of their group is missing, but as the winning numbers were the ones the missing man always picked they decide to share with him, anyway. His girl friend has made a trip to town to surprise him and expects him to propose. When he can't be found, she thinks that since he's now ... I look forward to the Christmas books that Mary Higgins Clark and her daughter Carol Higgins Clark write together. It makes the Christmas season more joyful for me. Of course, I love Mary Higgins Clark's regular mysteries. They are entertaining and adventuresome without the use of sex or bad language. Keep up the good work, Mary!!!
