Often I've found that "modern or updated" versions lose much of things we loved from the "old" stories as children. The illustrations are updated and clever. When the wolf blows down the houses the pigs hold onto the edge of the page. Also, each of the pigs has a little helper. However, I don't have a reader, so I made up my own version. I tell my son the pigs packed a lunch for a long day out playing. They got cold & decided to build some houses.
