Editorial Review: Product Description: Extreme Brewing is a recipe-driven resource for aspiring home brewers who are interested in recreating these specialty beers at home, but don't have the time to learn the in-depth science and lore behind home-brewing. As such, all recipes are malt-syrup based (the simplest brewing method) with variations for partial-grain brewing. While recipes are included for classic beer styles -- ales and lagers -- Extreme Brewing has a unique emphasis on hybrid styles that use fruit, vegetables, herbs and spices to create unique flavor combinations. Once their brew is complete, readers can turn to section three, The Rewards of Your Labor, to receive guidance on presentation, including corking, bottle selection and labeling as well as detailed information on food pairings, including recipes for beer infused dishes and fun ideas for themed dinners that tallow the reader to share their creations with family and friends. "The Italian word for chutzpah is audacia, but it might as well be 'Sam A. Calagione.'" -- Forbes Average Rating:
![]() Rating: - A Welcome Addition to Any Beer Enthusiast's LibrarySanta brought me Sam Calagione's "Extreme Brewing" for Christmas. As a veteran homebrewer and beer enthusiast, I thoroughly enjoyed the book. I do not believe it will replace cornerstone texts like "The Joy of Homebrewing", "How to Brew", or "Designing Great Beer" as a reference or instructional guide. It is, nonetheless, an extremely interesting and informative book, a tasty sidedish to the other books' meat and potatoes. "Extreme Brewing" provides a useful, if somewhat abbreviated, "how to" ... Read More Rating: - Extremely overstated titleThis book is a nice picture book of brewing techniques and not a lot more. It is part basic equipment and instruction manual, and part recipe book. It is well done for what it is, but can be passed by if you are already doing more than beginning extract brewing and certainly if you are already into all-grain brewing. The "Extreme" in the title should be regarded as from the extract brewer's perspective (i.e., all grain is more involved than extract), or perhaps it's a hyperbolic reference to some ... Read More Rating: - You will love passion of this author and the images in this bookThis book contains 25 fun and `extreme' beer recipes. The introduction surrounding the makeup of ingredients is well done and more detailed than most books. This book contains a lot of photography and the images are excellent. The intro to brewing chapter is a good review, but there are other books out there that go into more detail. Get this book for the information about using fruits and spices in your beer, or the best beer and food pairings. The recipes are extract based, which makes then accessible ... Read More Rating: - A must for any home brewerI've been brewing for a few years, but I'm still learning lots of new tip and tricks with this book. The presentation, layout and photos are terrific. Having food and beer pairings is such a bonus and unexpected treat. Highly recommended for any beer maker or beer lover's library. Know what you're making or know what you're drinking, even if you don't brew at home. Rating: - Not radical brewingThis book is one of those flashy glossy books with very little content. This is not for the all grain brewer, maybe for the extract people it could be of interest. Recipes are very basic and common. Dry writing style but lots of cozy pictures of people drinking beer.
