Through fictional narrative, modeling, and practical solutions, Lencioni shows how to turn meetings from painful and tedious to productive, compelling, and even energizing. The story follows an executive who finds his job on the line and his future dependent on his ability to dramatically improve his disastrous meetings. An irreverent graduate student comes into the picture with fresh ideas and a new perspective to help the executive turn things around. This engrossing and concise audiobook will help improve morale, effectiveness, and the bottom-line at the office. Average Rating:
![]() Rating: - Lessons for any organization that holds meetingsIn general I like the flow of Patrick Lencioni's books. He certainly has a creative streak which even gets the non-readers on leadership teams to actually get engaged in the topic at hand. This leadership fable did seem to drag on a bit more than the fables in his other books, particularly the Five Dysfunctions of a Team and the Four Obsessions of an Extraordinary Executive, hence the 4 stars versus 5. The material covered in this book is neither new nor extraordinarily ground-breaking, ... His reasoning is that the reason people like to watch movies is conflict that a movie depicts. In reality, no one like to see conflicts happen to themselves, though they are fascinated with conflicts happened to others with which they have no relationship. However, that does not say that there is no way to deal with conflicts. Conflict is reality ... The week after I read it we had our best office meetinig ever. One worker later told me that it was just 'lucky' that we had a great meeting. Little did he know it was definately not luck. Rating: - Highlights Good and Bad Meeting PracticesPatrick Lencioni highlights both good and bad meeting practices in "Death by Meeting." Meetings are a central component of the day-to-day operations at most modern businesses, and this book addresses the "practice" of meetings in a direct, head-on and meaningful fashion. Some of my take-aways from this book were...meetings can be run poorly in many ways and the downstream effects of bad meetings are potentially significant and many. Written in Lencioni's "fable and Model" style, ... Read More Rating: - Not a fiction, but management adviceThis is Patrick Lencioni's new book published in 2004, again a fiction and management book. I think this one, for the story, is better written than his previous books. The description of the characters and the scenes in the story are more interesting and with more depth. The story is about a company, having been acquired, facing its new boss. It sensed a death threat by the man from headquarters. The white knight who came to the rescue was a temporary administrative assistant to the CEO. Seems ... Read More
