Editorial Review: Product Description: On this family-friendly DVD, bestselling author and trainer Paul Owens teaches easy step-by-step methods to train your puppy or dog that will give you immediate results. Owens has 35 years of experience and is often referred to as the original Dog Whisperer since his book, The Dog Whisperer, was released in 1999. Owens is also the author of The Puppy Whisperer and is featured on the DVD, The Dog Whisperer Vol. 2: Solving Common Behavior Problems. Owens teaches only positive, non-force training methods and is nationally recognized as a leading proponent of nonviolent training. Coupling scientifically-proven methods with kindness, respect, and compassion, this state-of-the-art training proves that there is no need for jerking, hitting, pinning, shocking or shaking to get reliable behavior. You will learn how to teach your dog to cooperate, not submit. Dogs are given signals instead of commands and, step-by-step, they learn to happily respond even when tempted by other dogs, children on skateboards, joggers, or the aroma of a juicy steak! Learn 3 simple steps to each of 8 different basic behaviors, sit, go to your spot, down, find it, stay, leave it, come and heel, which can be used to solve unwanted behaviors such as jumping, stealing, pulling on the leash, bolting out the door, digging, and chewing. Learn insights into how dogs learn and ways to fast-track your training using the Magnet Game process that Paul developed. This DVD includes an amusing, yet instructional look at the training of basic behaviors from the dog s point of view. Learn what to do if your dog is not responding to your training. Learn clicker training for faster results. Learn how to quickly wean your dog off food treats. Includes fun tricks and games to play with your dog, including shake, beg, rest and play dead. Special segments include surprise visits from some witty puppets. Added bonus segment: The award-winning three-minute animation, Man s First Friend, is a witty foray into the era when dogs and people first forged their alliance. This DVD is easy to navigate so you can easily return to watch specific segments as often as you wish. It is the perfect educational tool for the whole family. Average Rating:
![]() Rating: - Easy dog training This video was simple to understand but really for beginning training and not intermediate. While the training worked on my puppy to obey simple commands such as sit and lay down, he is beyond that and into intermediate training such as walking and not jumping. This book did not cover that type of training, it is basic simple sit, lay, come commands. Rating: - This DVD saved my neighbors dogs life!Three weeks after I brought my puppy home from the East Valley Animal Shelter, my neighbor decided to get a "pound puppy" as well. I saw him the following week as he was literally on his way to bringing the dog back to the Shelter "because the 'no good crazy mutt' was biting everybody". He said he wasn't as lucky as me and he got a bad dog. I let him borrow this dvd and pleaded with him to give the dog a second chance. He hesitantly agreed. A couple of days later I checked in with him and the ... Read More Rating: - UselessThe way this video is set up with menus upon menus makes it virtually useless. Whatever information it contains is difficult to access because of the menus. What information I watched was mediocre and elementary at best, and the frustrating menus for less than five minutes of DVD play time per selection was finally to much. It was a waste of money. I finally tossed this DVD and went out to play with my dog. If you want a video game, get a video game. If you want an easy to ... Read More Rating: - Don't do it.This DVD is very basic and only covers the basic commands. Could be useful if you have a puppy but a basic puppy class will teach you the same stuff. I like his style for sure, but I can't really recommend this DVD as the content is extremely limited. It's really not worth the money. Rating: - doesn't stick to the topicWhile the compassionate insights into dog psychology and non-violent training are useful, there's too much extra stuff in this book. I'm not going to take up yoga, do breathing exercises or cook better for my dog than for my kids. I'd love to see a more concise, focused version of this book.
