Simon our other purrrfect pet starIsn’t Simon just so adorable?

You may have already read about my first cat, Max. It is because of Max that Simon, our second cat came into our lives.

It may be hard to believe, but our lovely kitten Max was with us for only about a week when my husband, Jack, decided that Max should not be alone so much. Jack felt that our new-found cat needed a cat friend to pal around with during the day, since we both work.  I agreed, so the decision was made to get another cat.

I put out the word at work to all my customers as I manage a pet store.  The kitten search was on!  Since Max was only about 3 months old, we really wanted a kitten instead of a full-grown cat.  Many people responded but, with the offer of older cats.  I was afraid that Max was too small and that an older cat may not adapt well to the higher energy of a kitten.

Two weeks went by and no kitten...  One night I was at work when I had just locked up to close up for the night, I heard a pounding on the door.  It was a young boy named James, who always came to my store to buy food for his own cat. That night he had a kitten in his arms. He had found the kitten which was about 2-1/2 months old. As I opened the door for him, James told me that he needed kitten food for this little kitten.  I let him in and asked him if his mom was going to let him keep the kitten. I told him if she didn't, that I would take the kitten. I knew the cat that James had at home was already 10 years old.  James was so happy with the little kitten - and I was happy for him too knowing that if allowed, he would give the kitten a good home.

Simon - our entertaining little pet star!James came back to the store a few days later with the kitten he had named Tigger.  James was crying.  He told me that he couldn't keep the kitten.  His older cat just wasn't getting along with the kitten, so his mom told him to give me the kitten. I felt so bad for James.  I told him that I would give his kitten a great home and a super little cat friend (Max) to keep him company.

James put Tigger in my arms and stopped crying.  Then I told James I would give him a setup for a lizard…this was something he had wished for for a long time!  He was so very happy.  So I basically traded for the kitten.  James left happy. I was happy too...until I took a good look at the kitten.  He had fleas from head to paw...Oh NOOO... poor baby he was so tiny too.  Thank goodness I work at a pet shop!

After closing up I bathed Tigger the kitten in my store to make sure he wouldn't have fleas to bring home to Max.  Two hours later, I was home...no fleas.  When I got home, Max took to the kitten very well.  I was happy, but somehow didn't think the name Tigger really fit...so I changed it to Simon. And that's how we got our second cat.
