Three years ago, my family decided we were ready to get a cat. We visited several animal shelters looking for just the right friend. One day when we were out, we stopped into a local shelter "just to peek." Mikko caught my eye immediately.
He was three months old and had been living on the city streets before someone brought him in. He came right up to the bars of the cage and said hello. We asked to visit with him, and the shelter volunteer brought him out to meet with us. Mikko immediately fell asleep on my lap -- we knew he had chosen us. He has lived with my family ever since.
Mikko loves to play with his toy mice, to sleep snuggled up in the bed, and to drink from the water faucet. In fact he will jump on the bathroom counter and meow until you turn on the water. He also will sit on command if you offer him a treat.
