Shorty is my red canary and a real pet. When I retired and was at home a lot more I decided that I had time to look after a pet, so when I wen tto the pet shop this little bird caught my eye. I just love the colouring... quite a brilliant red, though this picture may look a little orange. My gandson who is a computer whiz did up this photo for me on the black background which makes this little bird lok even more dramatic I think.
I have a five-tiered cage for Shorty with lots of wheels and mirrors and whatnot with which to amuse himself and I think he is happy in his new home with me. When I visit him with extra treats he chirps a lot and makes me laugh. He is not very noisy as a rule and when company comes he is very quiet until they get near his cage... then he gets full voice and chatters away.
Shorty will soon get a mate as I am now thinking of getting a yellow canary. Was thinking to call her Mabel.
