This is our pet Discus (Blue Diamond) fish that comes from the Amazon. Because of the blue and orange coloring we have chosen to call our pet fish Jazz. You can see why this is called a Discus fish from the flat rounded body that reminds one of the sprot of throwing a discus, right?
Jazz does not look to happy here, but it is just the way his mouth is shaped. He really is a super happy fish that swims around a lot all day and though a little shy seems likes company.
Sometimes Jazz likes to hide out in the plants, but mostly whenever we stand in front of the aquarium he comes over to the glass to check us out. He is really funny to watch when he eats. he takes some food then after a few minutes spits it out, only to take it back and swallow it. Weird!
In a few more months we will be getting a female Discus (maybe a super coabalt blue discus or a white diamond) to see if Jazz is interested in having a family. There is lots of room for this as our aquarium is quite large. We have a few Tetras and Pencil fish as well that get on well with Jazz. Having more Discus fish will make everyone in our family happy, since we get a lot of enjoyment from Jazz already. We all take turns cleaning the aquarium each week since Discus fish need really clean well-balanced water.
