Why Do Dogs Pant?       
  
Unlike us, dogs can’t take their clothes off when they get too hot. Regardless of the weather dogs are always wearing their jackets. When our body temperatures get too high we sweat, dress in lighter clothes and we do what we can to avoid situations likely to make us even hotter.

Hedgehogs Can Be a Really Cool Pet!

As more people learn about the African Pygmy Hedgehog more people want to own ne as a pet. These very cute little creatures that fit in the palm of your hand are about only about one quarter of the size of a normal hedgehog. These cute pets do not eat a lot and do not require a lot of care.

The African Pygmy Hedgehogs are like owls or guinea pigs in that they like to stay up at night (nocturnal). They love to play and run like crazy on an exercise wheel. The way they are not like hamsters is that instead of eating greens, seeds and veggies they much prefer to eat meat in the form of cat food, chicken, minced beef and turkey.

Teaching Your Dog / Puppy to Sit       
  
The "Sit" command is an easy way to have your puppy show off his good manners. He can sit when visitor comes, when you meet a friend out walking, when you are preparing his dinner, or when he has to wait for just about anything. It is also one of the easiest exercises to practice because you can ask him to sit whenever and wherever you like. A Sit command is especially good for little everyday things, like having his leash attached.

The AquaEquid and The Unicorn...
We all know that a Seahorse is not a horse per se but is a fish with fins and gills. Seahorses are related to the very beautiful Leafy Sea Dragon. But if there is such a thing as a horse that lives in water what would it be called? Why an AquaEquid of course... Aqua for water and Equid for horse! So we can say the AquaEquid is a myth just like the winged horse called the Unicorn. Here is a funny poem for you about these mythological horses.

Hound dog howling so forlorn,
Laziest dog that ever was born,

Have you ever visited a hobby farm and had this happen?

What fun we've had around here this week!

One of our writers visited some new friends in the country and had a truly hair-raising time.

When invited to visit some new friends who own a hobby farm, she gladly accepted and drove out on a warm and sunny day.

She waited in the car for a few minutes to see if there would be any guard dogs around. The yard was pretty muddy so she didn't want any excited dogs jumping on or around her.

When Chelsea, the friendly-looking family dog did appear she was welcoming but did not bark or jump. Whew, that was a relief!

While getting out of the car and patting the dog, this writer and pet-lover spied the adjoining corral across the driveway. Two lovely young girls were getting ready to practice jumping with their ponies.

Maybe you already have a pet. But if you are like many children who are allergic to pets or are not allowed to have a pet for other reasons, don't give up!

Did you hear about these dogs that have been in the news and on YouTube?

They include an 18 ounce Chihauhau in Florida called Dancer, that may soon become the world's smallest living dog in the Guiness World Book of Records. This tiny pet is about 11 months old. It looks about the size of a newborn puppy and is less that 4 inches in height. The owner wheels it in a baby carriage so that it will not get hurt. Amazing!

Then there is the Bongo, a 100 pound Italian Mastiff dog, that seems happiest when he is fetching a bowling ball... all other types of sports balls are not enough of a challenge to him because he just destroys those. Oh yikes!

Add to this mix a self-taught skateboarding Bulldog named Tyson who can be sometimes be seen "shredding" at fairs in California. 

Just wild!
