Tails and tongues are already wagging, as The National Pet Press™ is expected to attract an unusually large readership. According to the American Pet Products Manufacturers Association, more than 70 % of all U.S. households own a pet.
The publication is the first and only national news publication geared to reach all pet owners. Previous pet-friendly news has been targeted to individual species. The National Pet Press™ may be on the verge of breaking that mold, driving even more growth in the field.
The newspaper is the brainchild of Barbara J. Andrews, a publishing industry veteran and CEO/Editor-In-Chief, of The Dog Press, a website devoted to dogs. An international figure amongst dog and horse fanciers, Ms. Andrews is also a breeder of champion Miniature Bull Terriers with over 30 years in the dog world.
“Pet ownership is truly a lifestyle. We’re celebrating that lifestyle, and all of the pets in our lives, including dogs, cats, birds, horses, rabbits – even snakes and reptiles”, said Andrews. “The National Pet Press™ is proof of the human–animal bond and the wonderful influence pets have on our daily lives”.
While much attention has been paid to the luxury end of the pet market, The National Pet Press™ will reach beyond celebrity style and shopping. Pet owners are hungry for news, sports, fashion and entertainment – any and all having to do with pets.
“We want to focus on real pet owners”, said Andrews, adding that it is the average American pet owner who drives the annual $40 million dollar pet industry. “Average pet owners may be underserved, but we’re here to help”.
Pet owners are looking for great content that’s not only fun and informative, but they’re also hungry for expert advice. In addition, pet owners are concerned about a number of issues from holistic health to legislation that adversely affects responsible pet ownership - even voting for pet-friendly candidates.
To help pet owners make sense of it all, The National Pet Press™ staff includes prominent breeders, judges, investigative reporters, legislative liaisons, medical doctors, veterinarians – stylists, even university professors.
The newspaper is expected to attract an advertising base that includes brands such as Eukanuba, Pedigree and Hartz, as well as advertisers in the consumer space, including auto manufacturers, banking and financial services, travel and entertainment. The National Pet Press™ has the potential to become one of the most influential publications in the country.
“We think sharing life with pets is deeper, richer, more satisfy experience”, said CEO Barbara Andrews. “The National Pet Press is going to excite a lot of people.”
The February premiere issue of The National Pet Press hits newsstands this week with a $1.95 cover price and biweekly distribution at newsstands, grocery stores, pet supply chains and specialty retailers.
