Getting the message out about protecting and caring for our animal companions is big work. The fact is that a lot of people in the media, who reach millions every day, have the power to spread this important message, and many of them use it well.
Someone who is a leader in this "raising public awareness" about pet health, pet adoptions and pet rights, is Bob Barker who appeals to his studio audience and the millions who follow his "Price is Right" television show. His very important message "to spay or neuter your pets to prevent pet over-population" has been delivered for more than 20 years. He also showcases pets available for adoption and suggests checking with your local shelter to adopt a pet.
These type of important messages reach a wide audience and surely help to make a positive difference in the welfare of animals. It is good to know that the media is grandly recognized and supported for this valuable work, through the annual Genesis Awards, hosted by the HSUS Hollywood Office and all the interested members of the media and caring celebrities.
Bob Barker is the recognized leader of the "Spay and Neuter Campaign" which is more than 25 years old. Barker, who ends every "Price is Right" show with an appeal to viewers to spay or neuter their pets, felt compelled to do more to address the problem. He puts a punch behind his words with funds by founding the DJ & T Foundation, a Non-Profit Foundation which is devoted to the support of low cost Spay/Neuter Clinics and provides Voucher Programs throughout the 50 United States and the District of Columbia. The Foundation's goal is to fund low cost spay/neuter clinics and voucher programs as a way to help relieve animal over-population.
As a very active animal advocate, Bob Barker has also provided endowments to a number of universities across the U.S. (Stanford University, UCLA, University of Columbia, Duke University, and through Freemantle Media to Harvard University) to promote the study of animal rights' law.
