Like a kennel owner, a pet sitter is someone who cares for other people's pets when required. Pet sitters often help out during times when people can't take their pet with them on holidays, business trips, or hospital stays. But they can also be called upon for shorter durations on a regular basis.
The pet sitter cares for the pet in the pet's own home. This means that the pet can stay in his own familiar surroundings. A pet sitter may be required to just drop in to check on the pet each day or may actually be invited to stay full-time to look after the pet.
The pet sitter's role is to ensure that pets placed in their care are kept safe, secure and well cared for through proper feeding, hygiene, exercise... and all the usual attention to make the pet feel comfortable... and to make sure the pet doesn't escape by accident! And, to do their pet-sitting tasks well, the pet sitter must first get proper information about the pet's likes, dislikes, habits, favorite hiding places, health, feeding and medical requirements from the pet's owner.
