Terrific summer read...
written by Abigail Thomas
A Three Dog Life is a memoir by Abigail Thomas that will entertain, comfort and move you. If you are a pet lover, it will touch your heart even more, as you will thoroughly understand the comfort Thomas gains from her faithful family pets.
The title all by itself is intriguing, and the story is filled with lovely humor and insights. It is also filled with tragedy, loss, and a difficult personal journey.
This is no light read. It is one that author Stephen King feels is "The best memoir I have ever read... sad, terrifying and scorchingly honest. This book is a punch to the heart."
The title is intriguing... "A Three Dog Night". Thomas aptly uses this
title to explain the intensity of her life experience, bu using
Australian folklore/history which tells us that Australian Aborigines
slept with their dogs for warmth on cold nights, the coldest being a
"three dog night". The book is neither about Australia nor Australian
folklore.
It is also is not about pets per se, the story involves family pets.
The pet lover community can quickly relate however... with how
important family pets are to healing, comfort and a happier life.
